BOCA RATON, FL- This past weekend was a big weekend for FAU sports inside the batter’s box. Both athletes who were awarded this week’s honors were an important part of their team’s success through the contact they made with their bats. Alex Hudak of the baseball team and Hailey Broyles of the softball team are Florida Atlantic University’s Athletes of the Week.

Junior outfielder Alex Hudak sparked the Florida Atlantic offensive attack going 9-for-15 (.600 batting average) and had multiple hits in the four games he played this week. Against Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday, Hudak drove in four runs for the Owls including his second homerun of the season. He also had three extra base hits of his nine total base hits which fueled his .933 slugging percentage and a .647 on-base percentage. Over the weekend Hudak scored four runs, including two in Sunday’s series-clinching victory over South Alabama. He is hitting .439 on the season.

Hailey Broyles hit .600 over the weekend, helping the Owls to their fourth Sun Belt series win and first conference sweep of the season. In Saturday’s 3-0 win, Hailey successfully executed a sacrifice that put the Owls ahead 2-0. In Sunday’s 5-4 sweep clinching win, Hailey went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice, including what proved to be the game winner in the bottom of the sixth inning. She also helped preserve the win by making a running catch of a North Texas liner with the bases loaded to end the game. For the weekend, she hit .600 two RBI and two runs scored.

This week baseball will host UCF on Tuesday and Louisiana-Monroe on Friday, while softball heads to Mobile, AL to take on South Alabama on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
