BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University has named Remi Chancerel of the men's tennis team and the pair of Mackenzie Morris and Erica Brok from beach volleyball as the Student-Athletes of the Week.
FAU's dominant freshmen duo, Morris and Brok, continued their winning ways over the weekend, winning all four of their matches at the Burrow Beach Bash in straight sets and extending their winning streak to nine in the process. In a victory over #11 Georgia State's No. 5 duo, the pair won by matching 21-16 scores. Those 16 points were the most they allowed in any set all weekend. On the season, the pair is 10-2 and have only needed a third set in one of their wins.
Senior Remi Chancerel won the clinching points for the FAU men’s tennis team over Willliam & Mary and over UAB. Chancerel faced match point five times against Alec Miller of William & Mary, battling for a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7-2) victory to propel FAU to a 5-2 win. Against UAB, Chancerel beat Tim Dollman 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 to give the Owls their 12th win of the season, 4-2 over the Blazers.
The beach volleyball team will be back in action this weekend in the Stetson/Hickory Point Lake Bash on Friday and Saturday. The Owls will face College of Charleston and Houston Baptist on Friday followed by Stetson and Jacksonville on Saturday.
The men's tennis team will take on three Conference USA foes this weekend in Murfreesboro, Tenn. On Friday, the Owls will face Charlotte, followed by Old Dominion on Saturday and rounded out with Middle Tennessee on Sunday.
