Kozak, Palmer Named Players of the Week
Feb. 20, 2018

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University has named Madisyn Palmer (softball) and Colin Kozak (swimming and diving) student-athletes for the week of Feb. 19.

Palmer keyed the FAU offense at the Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Invitational over the weekend. Against Oakland on Friday, Palmer went 2-for-4 with five RBI at the plate, including her first career home run (a grand slam). She had a base hit against #19 Oklahoma State. Palmer singled and stole a base in the Owls win over #10 Tennessee on Saturday, then followed that up with a single, a double, stealing four bases, driving in a run and scoring two of her own in a win over UMass-Lowell. Palmer capped off the weekend by singling, drawing a walk, stealing two more bases and scoring a run vs. Missouri on Sunday. For the weekend, she hit .467, with a .733 slugging percentage, stolen eight bases, drove in six runs and scored five times.

Kozak and the men's swimming and diving team earned a fourth place finish in the CCSA Championship last week. As an individual, Kozak had two career best times on the week in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events. In the 200 free, the junior earned silver with a 1:39.33 time, the highest finish for a FAU swimmer at the championship. Kozak finished the 100 free in 45.17 seconds. He also swam in the 50 free and finished in 20.73 seconds for a sixth place finish.

Kozak also was an important contributor for the Owls in relays, which are worth large points totals. He swam in the 200, 400 and 800 yard freestyle relays along with the 400 medley relay. He and his teams earned two third-place finishes (200 and 800 yard freestyle) and a pair of fourth-place finishes (400 yard freestyle and 400 yard medley).

Palmer and the softball team will host the FAU "Strike-Out Cancer" Tournament starting on Friday lasting through Sunday. FAU plays at 6 p.m. on Friday against Texas State followed by Columbia at 8:15. On Saturday, the Owls will take on Dartmouth at 6 p.m. and UIC at 8:15 p.m. and then will wrap things up on Sunday against Tulsa at 1:30 p.m.
