BOCA RATON, Fla. - The 2018 Winter Olympics will officially get underway on Friday with the Opening Ceremony held in PyeongChang, South Korea. Florida Atlantic University alum Brittany Bowe will represent Team USA in the sport of speedskating.
The PyeongChang Games mark Bowe's second Olympic appearance after also competing in the 2014 games held in Sochi, Russia. She will skate in the 500 meter, 1000 meter and 1500 meter events. The schedule for those events is below (all times are listed as Eastern Standard Times):
500m - Monday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 a.m.
1000m - Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 5:00 a.m.
1500m - Sunday, Feb. 18 at 6 a.m.
Speedskating competition will be held at the Gangneung Ice Arena and Gangneung Coastal Center Cluster.
In her senior campaign at FAU, Bowe dished out a whopping 136 assists for the women's basketball team while grabbing 48 steals and 118 rebounds. She ranked second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per game. The four-year starter also earned FAU's Most Outstanding Female Athlete honors as a senior. She represented the Owls from 2006-10.
While competing on the hardcourt in the winter, Bowe traveled during the summer as a competitive inline skater. Upon graduation, she turned her interest towards the ice.
Since turning her full-time attention to speedskating in 2010, Bowe has been a consistent medalist at the World Championships, successfully competing in 2016 (500m - silver, 1000m & 1500m - bronze), 2015 (1000m & 1500m - gold, 500m - silver) and 2013 (1000m - bronze, 500m - 14th). She also competed for Team USA at the 2007 Pan American Games, where she won a gold medal in inline skating.
