The Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence will play a central role to elevate FAU's academic and athletic standing while helping student-athletes reach their greatest potential. The facility received initial funding of $16 million from the Schmidt Family Foundation, the largest single gift in FAU's history.
The Complex will be constructed adjacent to FAU Stadium. In addition to a student-athlete academic and leadership center, the state-of-the-art facilities will include the athletic administration offices, a strength and conditioning wellness center, sports medicine center, locker rooms, the FAU MBA Sport Management Program, a history and tradition hall, indoor training center and outdoor practice fields.
Since the announcement of the generous gift by the Schmidt Family Foundation, additional gifts have been graciously committed to making the Schmidt Family Complex a reality. Gifts include:
- $16 million Schmidt Family Foundation
- $5 million Christine E. Lynn Sports Medicine Center
- $5 million Bobby and Barbara Campbell Academic Success Center
- $1 million Eleanor R. Baldwin History and Tradition Hall
- $500,000 Cathy and Abdol Moabery
- $500,000 Dr. Ann and Alan Aker
Christine E. Lynn Sports Medicine Center
The Christine E. Lynn Sports Medicine Center will provide FAU student-athletes with an environment in which preventative treatment and post-competition healing will be at the forefront. It will include specially designed areas for pre-habilitation, rehabilitation and hydrotherapy treatments, as well as offices for training staff. When a student-athlete requires additional care, rooms will be available for FAU team doctors to provide necessary medical examinations and treatments.
Bobby and Barbara Campbell Academic Success Center
The 12,000-square-foot Academic Success Center will be the cornerstone of the Schmidt Family Complex. It will provide FAU student-athletes with a comprehensive support program focusing on academic, personal and professional excellence. The Center will include nine tutor suites, a career center, computer laboratories and two study hall rooms to create an environment that fosters well-balanced development and reinforces the highest academic standards and performance while providing the resources to prepare them for careers beyond collegiate athletics.
Eleanor R. Baldwin History and Tradition Hall
Baldwin, a Boca Raton resident and former Broward County high school teacher, has had a longstanding relationship with the University. As one of FAU's "Football Founders," Baldwin has been one of the university's strongest supporters and has helped grow and develop FAU Athletics and in turn the student-athletes. The History and Tradition Hall will continue to do that as it brings together all of the Owls' finest moments and helps foster the connection between the student-athletes and FAU. It will also celebrate those who have come before and set the highest standards of excellence as an Owl both in the classroom and on the playing field.
